Hidden Agendas by Colleen Block

The world teaches hidden agendas.  All of our attitudes and opinions come from what we have been taught, what we believe or want to believe in order to be a part of an ‘in’ group. “This is how you get ahead; this is how you get what you want in life.” There is an underlying mistrust in this premise.  We don’t trust that people will give us what we want unless we hide our intent, and as a result, we look at others with an eye of mistrust, thinking they are trying to get something from us.  One attitude reflects the other.  When we hide in this way, pressure builds, and we end up tense, stress-filled people.

But, there is a solution to this dilemma, and it is a logical one. If we have relationships based on selfish hidden agendas, it is logical that there will be mistrust, anger, and confusion, because those are the emotions with which we approach our relationships and interactions. As a result, there is no clarity. If instead, we act with integrity in our thoughts, actions, and words, then logically, we create relationships that have that same openness, trust, and freedom, bringing joy to everyone involved.  But, it takes making our lives and our relationships free from any false pretenses or hidden agendas. It is similar to a penny whistle. A penny whistle has a pure sound when there is no residue inside its shaft.  It is the same for us. When there is a residue of hidden agendas, something held back and not seen, our communication becomes distorted. However, when we interact without hidden agendas, saying exactly what we mean without emotion, and acting impeccably, there is clarity, a divine quality, in our interactions, making our communication crystal clear. This kind of clarity, integrity, and purity of intention comes from the heart. The heart knows no opinion, attitude, or selfish agenda. It is a place of naturalness and trustworthiness. There is a congruence that makes us happy and peaceful.  When we live our lives naturally, without pretense, we are living from our hearts. It is light. It is love. It is pure logic.
